Navigating Partial Replacements of RO Membranes

May 30, 2024
Need Headache Relief from RO Partial Replacements? Alleviate it with Improved O&M Practices by LG Water Solutions.

The operation and maintenance (O&M) of seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) plants invariably involves many challenges that determine system performance over the operational period. The selection of the operational parameters, chemical dosages, and cleaning-in-place frequency drastically affect the permeate quality and operating costs. One of the more complicated O&M tasks is the partial replacement of the membranes. Deciding which membranes, their positions, and the quantity of membrane elements to replace requires a deeper evaluation of the operational data and estimation based generally on the potential specifications of the new replacement elements.

LG Water Solutions’ Q+ Projection Software features a unique tool that allows users to create membrane models. System designers can use the tool to define the specifications of membrane elements currently operating in an RO system, allowing an accurate projection of the system performance after partial replacement. The system designer can identify the following to comply with the RO plant’s requirements, such as maximum feed pressure and permeate water quality:

  • The most suitable replacement membrane model;
  • Minimum number of replacement membranes; and
  • Ideal positions for the replacement membranes

This webinar will examine various case studies on RO partial replacements and their outcomes, supplemented by live tutorials using Q+ RO Projection Software and its advantages in improving your O&M strategies.
